Facebook allows Google Search of its members, and bring privacy issues.
I have just opened a group for students of the master distribution et relation client of my University (dauphine). This group aims to build a community around the alumni of my graduation year, but also with the other generations. Hope it will work.
Anyway, today, and that is why my group creation is related to today's topic, I wanted to show you my friend David Sparks' television appearance, talking about the facebook privacy issues.
To sum up, Facebook was originally proposed to high school and college student, and profiles of the member to people who did not belong to the network. But not a long time ago, facebook decided to free google that will be now able to index and incorporate to its search engine facebook members' profile.
All these web 2.0 companies base their profits on the number of members they have and on the data they own, which allow them to sell advertisement. That reminds me one of the issue Branisla Peric (in French) about Google that know everything about its users. It knows the content of its mail, the websites it goes to, where it goes with google map, what he writes about on his blog...
In my opinion, David is right to warn facebook users. Most of the user of facebook like this plateform because it is a restricted community. As facebook is opening its data to other people outside the community, people are right to feel feared by that. But afterward, this is the member issue to protect its intimacy by closing her public profile.
Very interesting article, but also video you can consult here.
