This is the headlines of the San Jose Mercury News today. Indeed, the San Jose web giant did not succeed in turning Skype into a lucrative Internet phone company. This picture features Niklas Zennstrom, CEO of Skype, and Meg Withman, CEO of Ebay, posing in 2005 while the auction company acquired the Swedish company.
One of the first objective of Ebay while he bought Skype in 2005 was to allow its users to call the buyer/seller. Actually, Skype was considered at this time to be one of the first Web 2.0 company, as it spreads on the market with no marketing, simply relying on word of mouth. But actually, the lack of marketing, a slower market growth and a higher competition had slowed down Skype.
Another news, is that the Famous CEO, Niklas Zennstrom resigned. Zennstrom has created Skype but also Kazaa, and is a leader of the Internet industry. Officially, his departure is dued to his will to spend more time on Joost, his new TV on line business. You will find here his version of the story.
Good luck Niklas.
